Cecila Carson is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. She had served her country with distinction, it was during her time in the military that she met her abusive husband. Although he promised to get help for PTSD and alcoholism, he only became more violent over time. One night, he almost killed her, and it was witnessed by their five-year-old daughter. Her husband would often beat her up badly, and the authorities threatened to take away her children because of his abuse. At times Cecila felt abandoned. She ultimately found the courage to leave with the support of friends and co-workers. Cecila hopes that telling her story will help other abuse victims seek help before it's too late.
